This evening's walk was on the Prospector Trail, starting at the Cottonwood trailhead and heading north a couple miles before retracing my steps. Tortoise loves discovering new paths just a hillside away from a busy city or highway, and yet in a world of its own. Tonight was one of those nights. The view above is looking down at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Hurricane shortly before passing behind a hill and into that other world just described.
More on this 4.15 mile walk with 281 feet climbed in 1:26:52 hours, including a map, more pictures, a video, and a classic walking message by James Faust that builds on the theme "The 'what’s in it for me?' philosophy is basically what’s wrong with the world" ... is just a click below away ...

I've walked 13 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 226 of the 239 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.56% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.
And now for today's walking thought by James Faust,
"In Roselandia, Brazil, outside the great city of São Paulo, there are many acres of beautiful roses. When one stands on a small hill above the rose fields, the aroma is delightful and the beauty is exhilarating. The thorns on the bushes are there, but they in no way lessen the enjoyment of the sight and the smell. I would challenge all to put the thorns, slivers, and thistles we encounter in life in proper perspective. We should deal with them but then concentrate on the flowers of life, not on the thorns.
"... selfishness can make what we think is a noble crown into a crown of thorns beyond our power to endure. When I first started my professional career, one of the senior members in our office asked another senior member for some help on a legal matter. The other man who was asked to help was gifted and able but also selfish. He replied, “What’s in it for me” The “what’s in it for me?” philosophy is basically what’s wrong with the world. It is surely one of the sharpest points in a crown of thorns."
