"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-284

Walked home from work by way of the corner of Confluence Park defined by the portion south of Tortoise Track and the Confluence View trails.  The view above is at the entrance to the Park on Tortoise Track.  It is wonderful to be able to walk in such scenic places!

This route was 4.03 miles with 264 feet climbed in 1:16:52 hours.  Tortoise rating was 4.8 and 632 calories were burned.  For a map and today's walking thought by Rex Pinegar, saying why he sadly understands why researcher Michael Hart included Jesus Christ at only number 3 on a list of the 100 most influential people in the history of the world.  It's most thought provoking and worth clicking below to read ...

Cheerio!

 2014 Stats:

811.69 miles walked, which is 81.09% of my 2014 goal.
256:30:49 hours walked, which is 81.95% of my 2014 goal
39,271 total feet climbed
129,655 calories burned
77.96% of the year has passed
I've walked 18 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 231 of the 244 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.67% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"A few weeks ago in testimony meeting with General Authorities, President   Gordon B. Hinckley made this observation: “It is easy to be Mormon and accept the theology. It is   difficult to be Christian and follow Christ in word and deed.”
President Hinckley’s challenging words came with renewed force to my mind later when was reading book by Michael H. Hart entitled The 100: Ranking of   History’s Most Influential Persons. To my surprise and disappointment, Mr. Hart   ranks Jesus Christ third on his list of people who have had the greatest effect on the course of human history.
The author’s reason for placing Jesus third in importance is as follows:
“The impact of Jesus on human history is so obvious and so enormous that few   people would question his placement near the top of the list. Indeed, the more   likely question is why Jesus … has not been  placed first.”
The author acknowledges that the teachings of Jesus Christ are “surely among the most remarkable and original ethical ideas ever presented. If they were widely   followed, would have had no hesitation in placing Jesus first in this book.”   (Secaucus, N. J.:Citadel Press, 1987, pp. 47, 50.)
What searing and likely very true observation: If Jesus’ teachings were widely          followed, Mr. Hart   would have no hesitation in placing Jesus first!
With these thoughts in mind, feel it is appropriate for us to ask, “Where do we   rank Jesus Christ in our lives? Does He come first, as He should?” Perhaps more significant question would be, “Where would we rank ourselves as followers of   Jesus’ teachings?” Do we live as Christians in word and deed?
