"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-286

Tortoise went on a 2.15 mile late night walk om 35:07 minutes as he neared the dreaded ides of October tax deadline.  Along the way he climbed 54 feet and burned 353 calories on the path with a tortoise rating of 5.6.  Please click below to find a map and tonight's walking thought from Thomas Monson that includes the line, "If ever there were a generation who would benefit by keeping physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight—that generation is the present generation."

Cheerio!

2014 Stats:

813.84 miles walked, which is 81.30% of my 2014 goal.
257:05:56 hours walked, which is 82.14% of my 2014 goal
39,325 total feet climbed
130,008 calories burned
78.27% of the year has passed
I've walked 19 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 232 of the 245 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.69% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"President Ezra Taft Benson described Scouting as “a noble program,” saying, “It is a builder of character, not only in the boys, but also in the men who provide the leadership.” (… So Shall Ye Reap, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1960, p. 138.)
"Brethren, if ever there were a time when the principles of Scouting were vitally needed—that time is now. If ever there were a generation who would benefit by keeping physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight—that generation is the present generation."

  1. The blog has been pure torch lately! You are over 3% above the yearly total and the walks you have been going on lately have been great. Also, I think your picture taking is getting better some of these are incredible.

  2. Tortoise was very excited to receive your kind comment while on another fine walk. This one on the Flamingo Arroyo trail just west of the Lamb wayside with a sweeping view of the Stratosphere.
Always glad to hear from you. Thanks!
