"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-308

Mile 882.  Today's walk took Tortoise 3.65 miles mostly along the Bloomington Hills Trail in 1:00:07 hours. Tortoise started at Riverside Trailhead, walked to the beginning of the Bloomington Hills Trail on River Road, and continued until a little past the St. James Trailhead, where he began retracing his steps.  The view shown above came about halfway on the return portion of the walk. There were 108 feet climbed in 1.00 mile along the way, giving that section a 5.2 tortoise rating.  The rest of the path was flat or downhill.  Lou burned 558 calories doing this.

Cheerio!

Loving the scurrying birds!

This path is also part of the Mayor's Loop.  Tortoise appreciates the unobtrusive
but informative signs every half mile.

The St. James Trailhead provides a peaceful and scenic access to the path

Another view at the St. James Trailhead

Lou took a slight detour on a side trail to get this picture of the trailhead entrance

The return walk has begun.  Tortoise really enjoys St. George's trail bridges

When the trails approach the riverbank, the vegetation gets a little thicker
For a brief moment you forget you are in a desert.  But just a brief one :-)
2014 Stats:

882.80 miles walked, which is 88.19% of my 2014 goal.
278:23:48 hours walked, which is 88.94% of my 2014 goal
43,502 total feet climbed
140,572 calories burned
84.35% of the year has passed

I've walked 38 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 251 of the 264 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 95.08% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.

And now for more of today's walking thought, originally presented in October 1992:

"In any pursuit and under any condition, we can ask ourselves what would Jesus do

"Even though we could never in this life measure up completely to His standard of excellence, our attempt to do so will lead us to do far better than otherwise."
