Mile 904. Tortoise took a walking break this afternoon from helping Becca set up for Kings Peak Elementary School's 4th grade Utah Day celebration that will be held tomorrow. It was 2.05 miles from the school past the hospital to the intersection of US Highway 40 and 600 East in Roosevelt, Utah. There were 54 feet climbed in 1.03 miles along the way, giving that portion a 5.0 tortoise rating, mostly because of the average elevation of 5117 feet. The rest of the path was flat or downhill. Lou burned 302 calories doing this in 38:41 minutes.

Cheerio!
Very exciting! Roosevelt is part of the Uintah Basin transit system, featuring nice bus benches and bright blue T signs that Bostonians would love |
Their hospital looks nice too |
Glad to see the music lessons sign on this tree lined residential street |
Lou's walk took him on a short segment of the Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway (Look below the US 40 and 191 signs on the right side of the picture) |
904.17 miles walked, which is 90.33% of my 2014 goal.
285:06:18 hours walked, which is 91.09% of my 2014 goal
44,288 total feet climbed
143,754 calories burned
86.90% of the year has passed
86.90% of the year has passed
I've walked 46 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 259 of the 272 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 95.22% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.
And now for more of today's walking thought, originally presented in September 1992:
"The Lord is not unmindful of you. We pray for your welfare. We thank God for the refining influence you have upon our world through your service, sacrifice, compassion, and striving for that which is beautiful and ennobling.
"Thank you for making our lives so much better because of who you are. Your steady example of righteousness stands in contrast to the ways of the world."
