"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-16

Mile 47.  Tortoise took advantage of his "4 day work week" and walked a large 4.72 mile loop through La Verkin, including Confluence Park.  Then he went to work anyway, refreshed from a little bit longer walk and nice scenery.  Please click below to read more about this walk, including another picture and today's walking thought by Robert Dellenbach ...

Cheerio!

A total of 308 feet were climbed today in 1:24:18 hours.  Average uphill tortoise rating was 3.2, earned primarily in the final mile climbing back out from the Virgin River.  688 calories were burned along the way.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Looking back down the trail while climbing from the river.
Lots of erosion from heavy rains earlier in the season.
Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

47.75 miles walked, which is 4.77% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 52.28 year-to-date miles.
13:53:57 hours walked, which is 4.44% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
1,815 total feet climbed, compared with 2,639 feet on this day in 2014.
7,161 calories burned
4.47% of the year has passed

I've walked 22 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 312 of the 327 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.41% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1995:

"The translation miracle of the Book of Mormon. Could any one of us today produce such a work? Could a thousand of the world’s best theologians and scholars of ancient languages or antiquities write a similar book of such supernal, transcendent value?"

The tortoise is smiling!
