"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-15

Mile 43.  Walked the Virgin River Trail South starting at Man O' War Park in Bloomington and continuing until just far enough past the Atkinville Trail junction to see that the trail has been lengthened since the Doug and Doug walk passed by this way in April 2013.  We will have to come back soon to see how much farther the trail now goes ...

For today, Tortoise retraced his steps at that point and headed back to work after a welcome sunny winter pause following the yearly What's Up Down South Economic Summit.  To read more about this walk, along with additional pictures and today's walking thought by Elaine Jack, please click below ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.66 miles.  A total of 54 feet were climbed in 1:01:13 hours.  Average uphill tortoise rating was 6.0, with 546 calories burned along the way.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

The walk ended at the new pickle ball courts in the park.  I'll let
the rest of those beautiful pictures speak for themselves.
Nothing quite like a brisk walk in the winter sunshine,
fresh air, and scenery!

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

43.03 miles walked, which is 4.29% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 48.43 year-to-date miles.
12:29:39 hours walked, which is 3.99% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
1,507 total feet climbed, compared with 2,456 feet on this day in 2014.
6,473 calories burned
4.15% of the year has passed

I've walked 21 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 311 of the 326 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.40% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in September 1994:

"Seeking implies so much more than merely looking. Seek means energy, direction, passion, purpose. To seek requires all our 'heart, might, mind and strength'"
