"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-24

Mile 71.  Tortoise purposely walked the long way to decorate Lou's brother Michael's grave on his birthday ... so Lou could add some hills en route.  Willyne met me there and kindly brought the flowers and took the pictures.  Thank you, Sweetheart.

Cheerio!

This walk totalled 3.25 miles in 54:39 minutes.  Average tortoise rating was 4.7 on the 1.63 mile uphill segment of this walk, based on 238 feet climbed. 484 calories were burned.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

71.64 miles walked, which is 7.15% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 73.19 year-to-date miles.

21:11:17 hours walked, which is 6.77% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

3,002 total feet climbed, compared with 3,282 feet on this day in 2014.

10,735 calories burned

6.71% of the year has passed

I've walked 29 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 319 of the 334 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.51% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1995:

"After his resurrection, and before ascending to heaven, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my [sheep]” (John 21:15). The question was repeated two more times, and Peter answered in the same manner; and the Lord replied, “Feed my sheep” (John 21:16, 17).
"This is the work or the stewardship of the home teacher: to feed, to nourish and quench the thirst of the sheep who are assigned to him as a shepherd."
