"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-26

Mile 76.  Today's walk after work took Tortoise on what he calls the "large southern loop" beginning and ending at his Hurricane office.  It's 4.47 miles, goes as far south as "the old stake center" on 650 South and as far east as Main Street.  Lou completed it in 1:27:15 hours.  For more on this, including an additional picture and today's still timely walking thought on mercy by Thomas S. Monson, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Average tortoise rating was 5.8 on the 2.24 mile uphill segment of this walk, based on 71 feet climbed. 656 calories were burned.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

76.11 miles walked, which is 7.60% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 76.82 year-to-date miles.

22:38:32 hours walked, which is 7.23% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

3,073 total feet climbed, compared with 3,640 feet on this day in 2014.

11,391 calories burned

7.03% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 30 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 320 of the 335 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.52% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1995:

"Early in my ministry as a member of the Council of the Twelve, I took to President Hugh B. Brown the experience of a fine person who could not serve in a ward position because he could not show mercy to himself. He could forgive others but not himself; mercy was seemingly beyond his grasp. President Brown suggested ..."
