"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-3

Mile 11.  Tortoise and his sweet lady had errands to run in St. George this fine Saturday afternoon.  Willyne did most of them, whilst Tortoise walked from the Sprint store on 700 South across from Harmons and the hospital up the Foremaster hill (atop which these pictures were taken), then up Riverside Drive and 3050 East to Wal-Mart in Washington.  For more on this walk and today's walking thought by Howard W. Hunter, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!
Today's walk was 4.29 miles, with 366 feet climbed in 1:12:00 hours, giving it an average 4.6 tortoise rating. 638 calories were burned on this walk.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

11.77 miles walked, which is 1.17% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 11.14 year-to-date miles.
3:16:53 hours walked, which is 1.05% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
820 total feet climbed
1,757 calories burned
0.96% of the year has passed

I've walked 11 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 23, and overall have walked on 301 of the 316 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.25% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented as the opening address in the October 1994 Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints General Conference, immediately following the solemn assembly where members of the Church sustained him as Prophet, Seer, and Revelator:

"My greatest strength through these past months has been my abiding testimony that this is the work of God and not of men. Jesus Christ is the head of this church. He leads it in word and deed. without the knowledge that Christ is the head of the Church, neither I nor any other man could bear the weight of the calling that has come."
