Mile 15. Tortoise walked home from work today by way of the signal light by Lins and Wendys then on the sidewalk along the highway. For more on this walk and today's walking thought by L. Tom Perry, please click below to continue reading ...
Cheerio!
Today's walk was 3.24 miles, with 115 feet climbed in 53:42 minutes, giving it an average 5.4 tortoise rating. 489 calories were burned on this walk. On the fourth walking day of 2014, Tortoise did a Benjamin category 5 override, 5.51 mile walk of the full St. George Mayor's Loop. This means Lou is now trailing last year's pace. He is determined to see what he can do about this, however many Tortoise steps and persistence that may take. Nobody said doing another 1,000 miles this year would be easy ...
My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since. Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:
Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
15.01 miles walked, which is 1.50% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 16.65 year-to-date miles.
4:10:35 hours walked, which is 1.33% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
935 total feet climbed, compared with 758 feet on this day in 2014.
2,246 calories burned
1.28% of the year has passed
1.28% of the year has passed
I've walked 12 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 23, and overall have walked on 302 of the 317 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.27% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)
And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1994:
"Isn’t a prophet someone who teaches us to open doors we could not open ourselves—doors to greater light and truth? Isn’t a prophet like a pair of hands clasped together in front of the body of the Church, helping members navigate through the dark corridors of the world? Isn’t a prophet someone who watches and waits for us patiently while we get to where we need to be?"

The tortoise is smiling!
