"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-7

Mile 21.  Tortoise is in travel mode this evening, resulting in a two walk day with each walk in a different state.  Pictured above is the C concourse of McCarran airport in Las Vegas, significant in this instance primarily because Lou was travelling out of the B concourse.  Later on in this post the reader will find a link to his meandering 2.92 mile path through all corners of the C concourse, then all of B, followed by all of A, before returning to B to board his plane.  With a backpack of clothes and a rolling bag of work.  It helps the time pass by more quickly once the security search has been completed, and it's not like those plastic airport chairs are known for their great comfort ...

Prior to this walk, Tortoise also did an 0.92 mile quick trek from St. George Shuttle to Wendy's and back. For more on these walks and today's walking thought by W. Don Ladd, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Today's walks total of 3.84 miles.  A total of 34 feet were climbed in 59:36 minutes.  Average tortoise ratings were 6.0 and 6.3, respectively. 623 calories were burned on these walks.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try these links and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

The new location of St. George Shuttle, in a former car lot on Red Hills Parkway

Not much activity in the A concourse these days, now that the sparkling
new E concourse is available with Jet Blue and United among the airlines
who relocated there.
Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

21.02 miles walked, which is 2.10% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 23.21 year-to-date miles.
5:54:49 hours walked, which is 1.89% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
1,092 total feet climbed, compared with 1,172 feet on this day in 2014.
3,197 calories burned
1.92% of the year has passed

I've walked 14 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 304 of the 319 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.30% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1994:

"We all need to build a personal ark, to fortify ourselves against this rising tide of evil, to protect ourselves and our families against the floodwaters of iniquity around us. And we shouldn’t wait until it starts raining, but prepare in advance."

  2. You'll have to try it ... vastly superior to those airport chairs that are even more uncomfortable than airplane chairs in their upright and locked position! And it helps the time pass quicker ...
