"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-8

Mile 24.  Tortoise was not feeling 100% today, but it takes more than that to stop Lou, so he proceeded to the trail conveniently adjacent to his client's Costa Mesa offices, then connected with the Santa Ana River Trail.  He followed that trail under the San Diego (I-405) Freeway and continued as far as Adams Avenue before retracing his steps.  His only concession to an uneasy stomach was to slow the pace to an average 19:07 minutes per mile.

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.69 miles.  A total of 44 feet were climbed in 1:10:33 hours.  Average tortoise rating was 6.8, with 540 calories burned along the way.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Souplantation was conveniently located just a mile away at the end of the walk.
Thanks for a delicious scrubber dinner, Ragozzines!
Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

24.71 miles walked, which is 2.47% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 26.95 year-to-date miles.
7:05:22 hours walked, which is 2.26% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
1,136 total feet climbed, compared with 1,388 feet on this day in 2014.
3,737 calories burned
2.24% of the year has passed

I've walked 15 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 305 of the 320 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.32% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1994:

"My wife has the purest faith and deepest spirituality I know.  And to each of our children, I say, Thank you for being the kind of person I prayed at your birth you would become. It is high privilege indeed when a father’s best friends and noblest examples are his own children."

At the risk of appearing to put Mr. Tortoise even remotely into the class of Elder Holland, which is definitely not  the case, Lou would like to note that these words express his thoughts exactly.

Sincere, deep thanks to each of you.
