Mile 337. A diverse and fun Saturday for Tortoise. At midafternoon he was taking his classic walk up the hill from his office, with today's twist at the top being around the American Legion ball fields at the top of Hurricane's 200 West Street. A few hours later, he was in the Dolores Dore Eccles fine arts center on the campus of Dixie State University, witnessing the ever joyful Golden Butterworths awards ceremony. And it was indeed joyful. (Thank you for bringing me smiles, Jacob, I love you!)
Walking thought of the day was provided by Gordon Hinckley ...
Tortoise completed today's 3.76 mile walk in 1:09:07 hours Tortoise rating was 5.2, based on 181 feet climbed in the 1.88 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3284). 549 calories were burned along the way.
And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
337.55 miles walked, which is 33.69% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 307.74 year-to-date miles.
100:31:05 hours walked, which is 32.11% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
17,389 total feet climbed, compared with 14,296 feet on this day in 2014.
50,599 calories burned
29.71% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 3 consecutive non-Sundays since his missed day April 15. Overall he has walked on 92 of the 93 non-Sundays in 2015, a 98.92% consistency rating, compared with 87 in the same period in 2014 (93.55%).
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent. He hopes you find what works for you)
And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1998:
"You will know no greater happiness than that found in your home. You will have no more serious obligation than that which you face in your home. The truest mark of your success in life will be the quality of your marriage."
