Mile 354. It might have been a wee bit windy for Tortoise as he walked home this evening. He took his favorite long way home, 4.06 miles by way of the tiny corner of Confluence Park formed by the Tortoise Track and Confluence View trails. Please click below for more on this walk, including a thought by Carol Thomas that Lou listened to along the way ...
Cheerio!
Tortoise completed today's walk in 1:17:36 hours Tortoise rating was 4.9, based on 262 feet climbed in the 2.03 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3251). 595 calories were burned along the way.
And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
354.68 miles walked, which is 35.40% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 332.64 year-to-date miles.
105:52:35 hours walked, which is 33.83% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
18.067 total feet climbed, compared with 15,449 feet on this day in 2014.
53,177 calories burned
31.95% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 10 consecutive non-Sundays since his missed day April 15. Overall he has walked on 99 of the 100 non-Sundays in 2015, a 99.00% consistency rating, compared with 94 in the same period in 2014 (94.00%).
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent. He hopes you find what works for you)
And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in March 1998:
"Family—what a sacred name for those we love the most. If someone asked you to name the greatest thing about your family, what would it be? I know that most families, including mine, are not perfect, but every day we are trying to be more kind and thoughtful to each other. This past month my father died. I learned many lessons from my dad. He had such great faith. He said, “Dying is just like walking into another room.” The day he died, I thought: My dad died today! This was his last day on earth! He has just walked into another room. It was such a sweet, sacred experience for my family and me."
