"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-140

Mile 388.  Very similar circumstances and route as yesterday's walk.  For a map, additional details, and today's walking thought by Russell Nelson, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Tortoise completed today's 2.09 mile walk in 35:57 minutes.  Tortoise rating was 5.8, based on 36 feet climbed in the 1.05 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3238). 305 calories were burned along the way.

Here is a map of today's route:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

388.38 miles walked, which is 38.76% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 387.39 year-to-date miles, so Tortoise passed last year's pace on the same day he caught up to 2014 consistency rating (see below).  Of course, this is a moving target.  As a bit of foreshadowing, three of the next four days last year were over 5 miles each, so Lou has his work cut out for him to stay ahead of pace.

116:47:21 hours walked, which is 37.31% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

19,710 total feet climbed, compared with 18,610 feet on this day in 2014.

58,149 calories burned

38.34% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 8 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 111 of the 120 non-Sundays in 2015, a 92.50% consistency rating, the same as after 120 non-Sundays in 2014.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1998:

"Your body, whatever its natural gifts, is a magnificent creation of God. 3 It is a tabernacle of flesh—a temple for your spirit. 4 A study of your body attests to its divine design.
"Its formation begins with the union of two reproductive cells—one from the mother and one from the father. Together, these two cells contain all of the new individual’s hereditary information, stored in a space so small it cannot be seen by the naked eye. Twenty-three chromosomes from each parent unite in one new cell. These chromosomes contain thousands of genes which determine all of the physical characteristics of the unborn person. Approximately 22 days after these two cells unite, a little heart begins to beat. At 26 days, blood begins to circulate. Cells multiply and divide. Some become eyes that see; others become ears that hear."
