"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-139

Mile 386.  Tortoise got home from work at dusk and immediately set out on a minimum two-mile round trip walk up La Verkin's Main Street.  For more details and today's walking thought by Gordon Watts, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Lou completed today's 2.08 mile walk in 35:00 minutes  Tortoise rating was 5.6, based on 49 feet climbed in the 1.04 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3236.  309 calories were burned along the way.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  (Lou keeps trying without success.)  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see the details of their version of today's walk:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

386.29 miles walked, which is 38.55% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 387.39 year-to-date miles.

116:11:24 hours walked, which is 37.12% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

19,674 total feet climbed, compared with 18,610 feet on this day in 2014.

57,844 calories burned

38.02% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 7 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 110 of the 119 non-Sundays in 2015, a 92.44% consistency rating, compared with 111 out of the first 119 non-Sundays in 2014 (93.28%).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1998:

"A cheerfulness is generated by their gratitude for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the blessings derived from living the principles taught. One faithful district president expressed gratitude to have a bicycle for transportation to perform his calling. It seemed the more he pedaled, the happier he became. Perhaps there is a lesson here: if we are feeling ungrateful, we need to pedal a little faster. The depth and the willingness with which we serve is a direct reflection of our gratitude.
"Elder James E. Talmage said, “Gratitude is twin sister to humility; pride is a foe to both.” 4 Also, President James E. Faust has said, “A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness.” 5 In times of trial we can accept with gratefulness that which is to come, a gratitude for the blessings and gifts the Lord has in reserve for those who keep the commandments and serve Him in thanksgiving."
