"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-132

Mile 367.  First day back after eight missed days from bronchitis.  Tortoise was in St. George part of the day, so he stopped at the conveniently located Crosby Family Confluence Park and headed south into Bloomington on the Virgin River Trail, then retraced his steps.  It is always a nice path, and it was a good way to ease back in to daily walking.  Lou is a little stiff, but nothing serious, and glad to be back on foot.

Cheerio!

Not sure who stacked these rocks as a trail marker.
They weren't here last time Tortoise walked by,
but it was fun seeing it today.

and north

Which direction's view do you prefer?
Tortoise completed today's 3.42 mile walk in 1:03:38 hours  Tortoise rating was 6.0, based on 58 feet climbed in the 1.71 mile uphill portion (average elevation 2541). 503 calories were burned along the way.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  (Lou keeps trying without success.)  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where he walked today:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

367.59 miles walked, which is 36.69% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 373.53 year-to-date miles.  Good thing he built up a 30 mile cushion through mid-April when compared with last year's pace ... it was all lost very quickly!

109:52:12 hours walked, which is 35.10% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

18,341 total feet climbed, compared with 17,384 feet on this day in 2014.

55,091 calories burned

36.10% of the year has passed

Lou is starting over again at 1 consecutive non-Sunday since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 104 of the 113 non-Sundays in 2015, a 92.04% consistency rating, compared with 106 out of the first 113 non-Sundays in 2014 (93.81%).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1998:

"It is written: “The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
“Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it” (Matt. 13:45–46).
"You and I know the gospel of Jesus Christ is the pearl of great price. Each of those little grains of sand are Abraham’s children. They need to be cultured to become pearls. They need the right friend, a responsibility to help them grow in service, and nourishment with charity to retain them to truly become pearls of great worth in our Father’s kingdom."
