"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-133

Mile 371.  Tortoise took his car to Roadrunner (We Can Fix It!) this morning for an oil change.  It was a beautiful morning for a walk, so that's what he did during his short wait for his car.  For another picture along with more details and today's walking thought by Athos M. Amorim, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Tortoise completed today's 3.52 mile walk in 1:01:03 hours  Tortoise rating was 5.4, based on 122 feet climbed in the 1.76 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3193). 514 calories were burned along the way.  This was a tough workout for Lou, a reminder of what happens to him when he takes a break from consistent walking.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  (Lou keeps trying without success.)  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where he walked today:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

371.11 miles walked, which is 37.04% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 377.08 year-to-date miles.

110:53:15 hours walked, which is 35.43% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

18,463 total feet climbed, compared with 17,438 feet on this day in 2014.

55,605 calories burned

36.42% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 2 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 105 of the 114 non-Sundays in 2015, a 92.11% consistency rating, compared with 107 out of the first 114 non-Sundays in 2014 (93.86%).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1998:

"When I was called to serve as a General Authority, I had an interview with President Faust. He noticed that I was concerned because I felt inadequate for such a call. In his tender way, President Faust told me: “Athos, be yourself. Be yourself.” That night I lay awake in bed, thinking of my new responsibilities and of President Faust’s words. And I prayed. I asked myself, Who am I?And the answer came as clear and bright as the dawn of that brand-new day. I am, like each one of you, a child of God who wants to obey the Lord and serve wherever He sends me and thus be a better child of our Heavenly Father and a faithful member of the true Church of Jesus Christ.
"I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He is the head of this Church. I know He is our Savior and Redeemer. "
