Mile 377. Tortoise was greeted at the conclusion of today's walk with this new lighting at the Paparrazzi, LLC building across the street. It made him smile. When Lou started his loop walk past the city pool, the sun was still shining. Cheerio!
Tortoise completed today's 3.94 mile walk in 1:17:22 hours Tortoise rating was 5.2, based on 184 feet climbed in the 1.97 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3264). 582 calories were burned along the way. The reader may well note that Tortoise is having to work diligently to build his pace back to where it was a month ago. He will keep smiling and keep trying.
Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since. (Lou keeps trying without success.) Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see the details of their version of today's walk:
And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
377.18 miles walked, which is 37.64% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 381.76 year-to-date miles.
113:11:30 hours walked, which is 36.16% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
19,043 total feet climbed, compared with 17,767 feet on this day in 2014.
56,480 calories burned
37.06% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 4 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 107 of the 116 non-Sundays in 2015, a 92.24% consistency rating, compared with 109 out of the first 116 non-Sundays in 2014 (93.97%).
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent. He hopes you find what works for you)
And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1998:
"Life’s disappointments often represent the debris of our failed, proximate hopes. Instead, however, I speak of the crucial need for ultimate hope.
"Ultimate hope is a different matter. It is tied to Jesus and the blessings of the great Atonement, blessings resulting in the universal Resurrection and the precious opportunity provided thereby for us to practice emancipating repentance, making possible what the scriptures call “a perfect brightness of hope” (2 Ne. 31:20)."
