"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-171

Mile 488.  Tortoise walked 19.5 miles this week, enjoying pretty flowers and more on six daily walks in La Verkin, Hurricane, and St. George.  For more pictures, maps, and other details, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Flowers near the park on Monday's walk up La Verkin's Main Street

The next two views are from Wednesday's walk.  This is on
Hurricane's 100 North Street

and this shady spot is on 160 North Street in Hurricane

On Thursday, Tortoise took a very warm stroll on the Virgin River Trail
in St. George after birthday lunch with Ethan (see map below)

Friday's walk took Tortoise atop the 600 North hill looking south at Hurricane

with several shots of the new building near the middle school.

No signs.  Lou thinks it's a new medical clinic, but he's not sure.

Friday's walk also included small snippets of Tortoise Track
and Confluence View trails

And then back by way of Main Street towards his office

Here's a map of Friday's walk

Tortoise wrapped up the week with a 3.6 mile loop walk
in La Verkin.  This shot is approaching the fire station
with about a mile to go
This week's walks were as follows:

Monday, 2.37 miles, up La Verkin's Main Street to the church and back, in 45:45 minutes.
Tuesday, 2.15 miles up La Verkin's Main Street to the city office and back, in 40:38 minutes.
Wednesday, 2.02 miles on Hurricane's 100 North from Tortoise's office to 200 West, and a little more, in 37:34 minutes..
Thursday, 4.56 miles on the Virgin River Trail in St. George from the Riverside Drive trailhead just west of River Road to the new Mall Drive bridge in 1:30:18 hours.
Friday, 4.73 miles up the hill from Tortoise's office to the middle school, then up 200 West to the Confluence Park boundary where it becomes the Tortoise Track trail, then a short distance to the junction with the Confluence View trail, then back out of the park on that trail and on to Hurricane's Main Street, then down to 480 North, then over to 200 West, then down to 100 North, and then back to the office, in 1:28:41 hours.
Saturday, 3.69 mile basic La Verkin loop in 1:02:56 hours
Tortoise ratings Monday to Saturday were at 5.5, 5.6, 5.8, 5.9, 4.8, and 5.6.
Calories burned Monday to Saturday were:  349, 317, 297, 675, 696. and 541.

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

488.94 miles walked, which is 48.80% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 479.16 year-to-date miles.

149:32:05 hours walked, which is 47.77% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

24,022 total feet climbed, compared with 21,999 feet on this day in 2014.

73,269 calories burned

46.96% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 35 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 138 of the 147 non-Sundays in 2015, a 93.88% consistency rating.  This compares with 136 days walked after 147 non-Sundays in 2014 (a 92.52% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

The tortoise is smiling!
