"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-174 Approaching A Milestone

Mile 496.5 It is hot these days. The picture was taken by Tortoise while watering the garden at 6:10 this morning, shortly before he headed out on this 3.6 mile walk:

The plan is to do the same walk tomorrow, which will have me passing the 500 mile mark for the third time as I turn the last corner just before returning home.  If you would like to join me wherever you are by walking around the block or whatever you feel inclined to do, and then tell me about it, I would be honored.

Tortoise listened to the last talk prepared by President Marion G. Romney while walking today.  It was delivered by his son George J. Romney in 1983 General Conference. Descriptions of that and Marvin J. Ashton's final talks will come later.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

496.49 miles walked, which is 49.55% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 487.54 year-to-date miles.   Lou is three days ahead of where he was at this time last year -- 500 miles was accomplished on June 27.

151:43:31 hours walked, which is 48.47% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

24,225 total feet climbed, compared with 22,516 feet on this day in 2014.

74,383 calories burned

47.60% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 37 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 140 of the 149 non-Sundays in 2015, a 93.96% consistency rating.  This compares with 138 days walked after 149 non-Sundays in 2014 (a 92.62% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

Cheerio!

  2. I'm pretty excited the garden, all 4 plants of it, are still green and starting to bloom. If we're both gone for 3-4 days, it gets dicey whether the plants can survive without being watered. As for the walking, I've been even slightly more consistent than last year ... the challenge has been finding the time to write about it, which is a shame because I have walked in some really nice places with nice pictures ... that aren't posted yet. We will see as the summer progresses what I can do ...
