"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-240

Mile 686.  Tortoise had an opportunity early this evening to walk the Coal Creek Trail in Cedar City.  Lou could feel the difference in elevation from his usual 3200 to the 5800 here, but he adjusted quickly and enjoyed the walk.  To see the other pictures Tortoise took along this path, plus a map, other details of this walk, and the day's walking thought by Henry Eyring, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Tortoise joined the trail where it crosses under Main Street
near its intersection with Coal Creek Drive.

The trail varies from views of the red hills to the east of town,
to the lush green of a well manicured park.

A view as the trail turns to leave the park and climb towards the approaching canyon.

A nice view of the rising moon.  I knew nothing of the city's "Moon Walk"
when I started, but learned as I went that one would begin about as I ended.  Fun!

Had to throw in a sunset view ...

The map depicts the steady 2-3% grade, just enough for a brisk walk without
being overbearing.
This was a 2.92 mile walk, with a 4.3 tortoise rating earned by climbing 151 feet in the 1.46 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 5868.  The walk burned 436 calories in 49:13 minutes.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

686.45 miles walked, which is 68.51% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 684.36 year-to-date miles.

210:18:01 hours walked, which is 67.19% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

34,767 total feet climbed, compared with 31,959 feet on this day in 2014.

102,978 calories burned.

65.81% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 94 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 197 of the 206 non-Sundays in 2015, a 95.63% consistency rating.  This compares with 194 days walked after 206 non-Sundays in 2014 (a 94.17% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought:

"With your acceptance of the priesthood, you have received the right to speak and to act in the name of God.  That right will become a reality only as you receive inspiration from God.  Only then will you be able to speak in His name.  And only then can you act in his name. ... think of the day when you must know what God would say and what He would do. ...

"As a deacon, I had not yet learned that the power to speak and act in God's name requires revelation and that to have it when we need it requires praying and working in faith for the companionship of the Holy Ghost. ...

"With a prayer of faith, God can grant us power in the priesthood for whatever circumstance we may be in.  It simply requires that we ask in humility for the Spirit to show us what God would have us say and do, do it, and continue to live worthy of that gift."

The tortoise is smiling!
