"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-243

Mile 694.  Tortoise did the loop up the hill from his office, with an extra leg to pick up one more hill.  Pictured above is a view not quite 2 miles into the walk at the north end of the ball fields looking back at the Hurricane Ridge and some nice looking clouds.  To see Lou's other pictures today, along with a map, details, and his walking thought from Thomas S. Monson, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

This was a 4.39 mile walk, with a 4.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 276 feet in the 2.20 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3190.  The walk burned 645 calories in 1:16:58 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

694.87 miles walked, which is 69.35% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 691.52 year-to-date miles.

212:43:20 hours walked, which is 67.96% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

35,223 total feet climbed, compared with 32,699 feet on this day in 2014.

104,220 calories burned.

66.45% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 96 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 199 of the 208 non-Sundays in 2015, a 95.67% consistency rating.  This compares with 196 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.23% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought:

"As we attend the temple, there can come to us a dimension of spirituality and a feeling of peace which will transcend any other feeling which could come into the human heart.  We will grasp the true meaning of the words of the Savior when He said: 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. ... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

"Such peace can permeate any heart -- hearts that are troubled, hearts that are burdened down with grief, hearts that feel confusion, hearts that plead for help."

The tortoise is smiling!
