Mile 698. Lou had a couple evening appointments in St. George, when those were complete he parked in the Sunset Corners shopping center and started heading up the Highway 18 trail. Sure, it's near the highway, but as the picture above illustrates, great effort has been taken to make it a nice walking experience, separate from the vehicle traffic. Cheerio!
This was a 3.34 mile walk, with a 4.2 tortoise rating earned by climbing 333 feet in the 1.67 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3100. The walk burned 493 calories in 1:01:26 hours.
Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
698.21 miles walked, which is 69.68% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 694.64 year-to-date miles.
213:44:46 hours walked, which is 68.29% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
35,556 total feet climbed, compared with 32,880 feet on this day in 2014.
104,713 calories burned.
66.77% of the year has passed.
Lou has walked 97 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. This ties Tortoise's standing record of 97 days set in the period from December 24, 2014 through April 14, 2015. Overall he has walked on 200 of the 209 non-Sundays in 2015, a 95.69% consistency rating. This compares with 197 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.26% consistency rating).
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent. He hopes you find what works for you)
And now for today's walking thought:
"As she reflected back, she said, 'My testimony had become like a pile of ashes. It had all burned down. All that remained was Jesus Christ.' She continued, 'But He does not leave you when you have questions. When anyone tries to keep the commandments, the door is wide open. Prayer and scripture study became incredibly important."
The tortoise is smiling!
