"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-257

Mile 735.  Halfway through this evening's walk a very hard pounding, windy rain began, accompanied by intense lightning and shaking thunder.  Tortoise cut his walk short and took shelter in a park restroom for 15 minutes until the storm let up.  It was still a nice walk ... to learn more about it, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.49 miles, with a 5.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 191 feet in the 1.75 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3290.  The walk burned 512 calories in 1:00:16 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

735.28 miles walked, which is 73.38% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 734.29 year-to-date miles.

225:04:25 hours walked, which is 71.91% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

37,774 total feet climbed, compared with 35,204 feet on this day in 2014.

110,252 calories burned.

70.29% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 108 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 211 of the 220 non-Sundays in 2015, a 95.91% consistency rating.  This compares with 208 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.55% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought by Russell Nelson ...

"How do we hallow the Sabbath day?  In my much younger years, I studied the work of others who had compiled lists of things to do and things not to do on the Sabbath.  It wasn't until later that I learned from the scriptures that my conduct and my attitude on the Sabbath constituted a sign between me and my Heavenly Father. (Exodus 31:13, Ezekiel 20:12,20) With that understanding, I no longer needed lists of dos and don'ts.  When I had to make a decision whether or not an activity was appropriate for the Sabbath, I simply asked myself, 'What sign do I want to give to God?' That question made my choices about the Sabbath day crystal clear."

The tortoise is smiling!
