"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-258

Mile 737.  In another lifetime, long ago, Tortoise lived in England, where the rain is more like a mist than rain.  Today was a deadline day, we all worked extra.  Whilst doing so, the doors were open to let the pleasant, cool rainy air in.  It was much different than yesterday's violent, windy, lightning filled rain.  Then in a wonderful moment of serendipity, the rain ended, the work was finished, and Lou headed up the hill for a short evening walk.  It was overcast, but he thought he could walk a couple miles and stay dry.  Right around his turnaround point, the light misty rain began, bringing back memories from those days gone by.

Cheerio!

Headed uphill before the misty rain

Today's walk was 2.07 miles, with a 4.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 129 feet in the 1.04 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3279.  The walk burned 309 calories in 34:56 minutes.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

737.35 miles walked, which is 73.59% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 736.33 year-to-date miles.

225:39:21 hours walked, which is 72.09% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

37,903 total feet climbed, compared with 35,343 feet on this day in 2014.

110,561 calories burned.

70.61% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 109 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 212 of the 221 non-Sundays in 2015, a 95.93% consistency rating.  This compares with 209 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.57% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought by Cheryl Esplin ...

"Aaronic Priesthood holders represent the Savior when they prepare, bless, and pass the sacrament.  As a priesthood holder extends his arm to offer us the sacred emblems, it is as if the Savior Himself were extending His arm of mercy, inviting each one of us to partake of the precious gifts of love made available through His atoning sacrifice--gifts of repentance, forgiveness, comfort, and hope.

"The more we ponder the significance of the sacrament, the more sacred and meaningful it becomes to us.  This was what a 96-year-old father expressed when his son asked, 'Dad, why do you go to church?  You can't see, you can't hear, it's hard for you to get around.  Why do you go to church?'  The father replied, 'It's the sacrament.  I go to partake of the sacrament.'

"May each of us come to sacrament meeting prepared to have 'a truly spiritual experience, a holy communion, a renewal for [our] soul.' (Quoting Jeffrey Holland)"
