"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 755.  Tortoise got some beautiful river views as he walked through Confluence Park from the Cactus Cliff trailhead on west Center Street to the south trailhead of the Confluence Trail.  Please click above to watch the panorama, and click below to see Lou's other pictures, map, details, and the day's walking thought by Dallin Oaks ...

Cheerio!

A fun shady place to play in the river near the junction of the Confluence trail
and the Cactus Cliff trail
Tortoise likes learning more about the trails as he goes.  Take Chub Trace.  He has written
about it before, perhaps in the most detail on November 1, 2014, when he thought the trail
ended in a pile of rocks deposited by the river.  Today while walking the alternate path of the
Confluence Trail nearer the river after taking the previous picture, Lou noticed this sign along
the way.  We have another trail that fords the river!  ( You may recall he previously forded the
river on the Virgin River trail on June 14, 2014.)  Stay tuned to see what new magical mystery
walk Tortoise comes up with to combine these trails and brave the river currents ...

marker on the next trail, with the "minor" detail of Cactus Cliff in between.
Made for great picture taking (see the video above)
Today's walk was 3.44 miles, with a 3.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 323 feet in the 1.00 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3146.  The walk burned 519 calories in 1:10:08 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

755.09 miles walked, which is 75.36% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 749.31 year-to-date miles.

231:15:29 hours walked, which is 73.88% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

39,036 total feet climbed, compared with 35,713 feet on this day in 2014.

113,195 calories burned.

71.88% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 113 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 216 of the 225 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.00% consistency rating.  This compares with 213 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.67% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought by Dallin Oaks...

"In so many relationships and circumstances in life, we must live with differences.  Where vital, our side of these differences should not be denied or abandoned, but as followers of Christ we should live peacefully with others who do not share our values or accept the teachings upon which they are based.  The Father's plan of salvation, which we know by prophetic revelation, places us in a mortal circumstance where we are to keep His commandments.  That includes loving our neighbors of different cultures and beliefs as He has loved us.  As a Book of Mormon prophet taught, we must press forward, having 'a love of God and of all men' (2 Nephi 31:20).  As difficult as it is to live in the turmoil surrounding us, our Savior's command to love one another as He loves us is probably our greatest challenge."

The tortoise is smiling!
