"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-328

Mile 982.  Does this look like Thanksgiving week to you?  Tortoise was out walking in shirtsleeves this afternoon.  There is supposed to be cold rain the next two days, so Lou will enjoy this while he can!  Today's walking thought is by Carol McConkie ...

Cheerio!

Lou's not sure he believes it was quite this warm, but it was definitely a nice afternoon!

Today's walk was 5.70 miles and had a 5.4 tortoise rating earned by climbing 196 feet in the 2.85 mile uphill portion. The rating got a Benjamin Category Override to 5.0 because of the over 5 mile distance.  Average elevation was 3282.  This walk burned 846 calories in 1:3:129 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

982.90 miles walked which is 98.09% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 932.12 miles.  For the first time ever, he is now 50 miles ahead of his previous year's pace.

302:10:19 hours walked which is 96.54% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

52,782 total feet climbed, compared with 45,794 feet on this day in 2014.

147,506 calories burned.

89.78% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 169 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 272 of the 281 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.80% consistency rating.  This compares with 268 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 95.37% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Concerning the living prophet, the Lord commands the people of His Church:

"'Thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me;

"'For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.

"'For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.'

"To be in harmony with heaven's divine purposes, we sustain the prophet and choose to live according to his words."

-- Carol F. McConkie, "Live According To The Words Of The Prophets", October 2014 LDS General Conference
