"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-329

Mile 989.  Tortoise caught a little break today.  The weather forecast for the last week showed a major storm coming in for today and tomorrow, complete with rain, wind, and cold.  Lou welcomes all gentle, healing rains, but realizes that would have impacted where and how much he walked.  As it turns out, the storm hit hardest to the north of us.  Southern Utah got plenty of wind, and the temperature dropped 15 degrees from yesterday, but no precipitation.  Tortoise bundled up and headed out on a most excellent walk, the halfway point of which is shown above at the new Confluence View trailhead at the top of Hurricane's Main Street.  From there, Lou continued down to the river and then back up by way of Tortoise Track.  It also includes today's walking thought by Robert Hales ...

Cheerio!

Tortoise passed two beautiful horses along the way today.

The new trailhead is adjacent to the Parley Pratt 1849 Exploration Company memorial

Today's walk was 6.50 miles and had a 4.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 612 feet in the 2.83 mile uphill portions, which made it a 10k walk.  Average elevation was 3187.  This walk burned 966 calories in 1:59:06 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

989.40 miles walked which is 98.74% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 934.85 miles.

304:09:25 hours walked which is 97.17% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

53,394 total feet climbed, compared with 45,842 feet on this day in 2014.

148,472 calories burned.

90.10% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 170 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 273 of the 282 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.81% consistency rating.  This compares with 269 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 95.39% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"I also began to understand that God and Christ are literally a Father and a Son -- separate, distinct, individual beings who are wholly unified in Their purpose. 'We love [Them], because [They] first loved us.'  And over and over again I observed how They love one another and work together for our good."

-- Robert D. Hales, "Eternal Life -- to Know Our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ", October 2014 LDS General Conference

The tortoise is smiling!
