"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-360

Mile 1,093.  Tortoise is catching up on posts from past days when walks happened but writing didn't.  This fun one is from Boxing Day, December 26, 2015 ... a cold windy day, so Lou started doing laps inside the house.  After 6 laps, Wounded Duck joined him, and after 20 it became even more fun when the grandchildren did too.  He did 73 laps before it was done.

The walking thought by Quentin Cook came earlier in the day while driving in the car.  Tortoise had too much fun with his compadres on foot to listen while walking this day.  Lots of fun pictures await you ...

Cheerio!

These pictures might look best if you scroll through them really quickly, almost looks like they are in motion.  And thanks to Fredricksen for his quality camera action ...

Today's walk was 2.16 miles and had a 2.6 tortoise rating earned by climbing 401 feet in the 1.08 mile uphill portion.  That's the result of 73 trips up a 5.5 foot set of stairs. Average elevation was 3221. This walk burned 297 calories in 56:13 minutes.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

1,093.19 miles walked which is 109.10% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 1,009.00 miles.

335:53:43 hours walked which is 107.31% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

60,638 total feet climbed, compared with 48,661 feet on this day in 2014.

164,314 calories burned.

98.72% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 197 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 300 of the 309 non-Sundays in 2015, a 97.09% consistency rating.  This compares with 294 days walked through December 26 in 2014 (a 95.15% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Families could hold a 'Family Tree Gathering.' This should be a recurring effort.  Everyone would bring existing family histories, stories, and photos, including cherished possessions of grandparents and parents.  Our young people are excited to learn about the lives of family members -- where they came from and how they lived.  Many have had their hearts turned to the fathers."

The tortoise is smiling!
