"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-46

Mile 109.  O, to be able to bottle this weather and have it to enjoy over and over all through the year, as much when it is hot as when it is not.  Tortoise went for his daily energy boost (aka walk) up the hill in pristine 65 degree conditions, in his shirt sleeves, with just a touch of breeze ... finishing with another spectacular sunset.  All of this made Lou quite happy, as did the walking thought by Henry Eyring ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.07 miles and had a 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 212 feet in the 1.54 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 489 calories in 49:45 minutes, a pace of 16:12 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

109.73 miles walked which is 16.07% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 84.83 total miles.

29:48:03 hours walked which is 14.24% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

8,505 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 7,644. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 45:51 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

17,618 calories burned.

12.42% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 240 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 343 of the 352 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.44% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Years ago a friend of mine spoke of his grandmother.  She had lived a full life, always faithful to the Lord and to His Church.  Yet one of her grandsons chose a life of crime.  He was finally sentenced to prison.  My friend recalled that his grandmother, as she drove along a highway to visit her grandson in prison, had tears in her eyes as she prayed with anguish, 'I've tried to live a good life.  Why, why do I have this tragedy of a grandson who seems to have destroyed his life?'

"The answer came to her mind in these words: 'I gave him to you because I knew you could and would love him no matter what he did.' "

-- Henry B. Eyring, "To My Grandchildren", October 2013 LDS General Conference

The tortoise is smiling!
