"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-47

Mile 112.  The walk was later today, here's the night view at about the same spot as yesterday's brilliantly sunny view.  The weather was just as delightful, though.  Tortoise did this walk in his shirtsleeves again, and although it was just a wee bit cool when he started, he soon became quite comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed this walk.  Walking thought this evening was by Dallin Oaks ...

Cheerio!

Looking up from the pink lights of Papparazzi to the bright
white lights of city hall makes for an interesting contrast.

Today's walk was 3.04 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 217 feet in the 1.52 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 489 calories in 49:45 minutes, a pace of 16:39 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

112.77 miles walked which is 16.51% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 87.01 total miles.

30:38:39 hours walked which is 14.64% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

8,722 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 7,840. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 45:51 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

18,085 calories burned.

12.74% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 241 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 344 of the 353 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.45% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Let us have the courage to defy the consensus, the courage to stand for principle.  Courage, not compromise, brings the smile of God's approval.  Courage becomes a living and an attractive virtue when it is regarded not only as a willingness to die manfully, but as the determination to live decently.  A moral coward is one who is afraid to do what he thinks is right because others will disapprove or laugh.  Remember that all men have their fears, but those who face their fears with dignity have courage as well."

-- Dallin H. Oaks, "No Other Gods", October 2013 LDS General Conference, quoting Thomas S. Monson, "Courage Counts", October 1986 LDS General Conference

The tortoise is smiling!
