"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-49

Mile 120.  Tortoise took his walk at dusk up the hill, then down 200 West just enough further than Monday's walk to make it a "pi walk" ... 3.14 miles.  Yet another way that Lou keeps things just barely fun enough to keep the Boredom Committee at bay.  But sorry, Becca, he wasn't wearing his pi shirt for the occasion, joyous as that would have been!  This evening's walking thought was by Richard Maynes ...

Cheerio!

P. S.   Happy birthday, Floryne!

Wounded Duck, don't you just love the double hill on this route?
Today's walk was 3.14 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 224 feet in the 1.57 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 510 calories in 49:45 minutes, a pace of 15:51 minutes per mile.  It was Lou's tenth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

120.26 miles walked which is 17.61% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 91.36 total miles.

32:38:40 hours walked which is 15.59% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

9,277 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 8,232. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 46:38 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

19,293 calories burned.

13.38% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 243 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 346 of the 355 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.46% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"So whatever challenges you wake up to each morning, remember -- with the spiritual strength you develop, coupled with the Lord's help, at the end of the race you will be able to enjoy the confidence that the Apostle Paul expressed when he said:

"'For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

"'I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:' (2 Timothy 4:6-7) "
