"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-50

Mile 123.  Pictured above is the view just past this evening's turnaround point, looking back up the 200 West hill in Hurricane.  It was very close to the same walk as yesterday, but was made a wee bit shorter so as to keep a pi walk a very special occurrence.  Lou did today's version in two and a half minutes less time than yesterday's, making for a very nice, though unknown, heart rate.  He was accompanied by a walking thought by Richard Scott ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.12 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 217 feet in the 1.56 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 527 calories in 47:15 minutes, a pace of 15:09 minutes per mile.  It was Lou's eleventh 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

123.38 miles walked which is 18.06% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 93.53 total miles.

33:25:55 hours walked which is 15.97% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

9,494 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 8,428. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 46:39 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

19,820 calories burned.

13.69% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 244 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 347 of the 356 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.47% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"In between the many battles, Captain Moroni directed fortification of the weakest cities.  'He caused that they should build a breastwork of timbers upon the inner bank of the ditch; and they cast up dirt out of the ditch against the breastwork of timbers ... until they had encircled the city ... with a strong wall of timbers and earth, to an exceeding height.'  Captain Moroni understood the importance of fortifying the weak areas to create strength."

-- Richard G. Scott, "Personal Strength through the Atonement of Jesus Christ", October 2013 LDS General Conference
