"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-57

Mile 142.  Tortoise celebrated his 250th consecutive walk by doing something very ordinary.  He walked up the hill from his office about 8 pm.  The Boredom Committee is smiling, no doubt.

Shown above is the view coming back down the hill with about a half mile to go.  It was another excellent night for a walk, clear, calm, and 66 degrees at walk time, down from the high 70s this afternoon.  The walking thought was by Adrián Ochoa ...

Cheerio!

Today's walks totaled 3.27 miles and had a 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 222 feet in the 1.64 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3286.  This walk burned 546 calories in 50:34 minutes, a pace of 15:28 minutes per mile.   It was Lou's fifteenth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

142.32 miles walked which is 20.84% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 106.58 total miles.

38:28:47 hours walked which is 18.38% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

10,870 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 9,604. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 47:07 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

22,878 calories burned.

15.61% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 250 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 353 of the 362 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.51% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ...

" 'By their fruits ye shall know them.'  Can good fruit grow from a bad tree?  I know for myself that my Redeemer has forgiven my sins and freed me of my personal yoke, bringing me to a state of happiness that I did not know existed."

The tortoise is smiling!
