"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 139.  The tale of two walks ...

Bright and early this morning, Tortoise walked in the neighborhood near Roadrunner Auto Repair (Yes We Can!) while they changed his oil.  It was a pleasant mile in eighteen minutes.  Fourteen hours later, Lou headed out a second time to walk the extra mile ... or in this case two extra miles.  The walking thought was provided by Kevin Hamilton ...

Cheerio!

Today's walks totaled 3.07 miles and had a 5.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 169 feet in the 1.54 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 506 calories in 48:41 minutes, a pace of 15:52 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

139.05 miles walked which is 20.36% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 104.41 total miles.

37:38:13 hours walked which is 17.98% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

10,648 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 9,408. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 47:03 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

22,332 calories burned.

15.29% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 249 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 352 of the 361 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.51% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"We exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, change our hearts, and then follow Him down into the waters of baptism and receive the confirming gift of the Holy Ghost, which serves as a guide and comforter.  And then, as Nephi taught, we 'press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ' until the very end of our lives."

-- Kevin S. Hamilton, "Continually Holding Fast", October 2013 LDS General Conference
