"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-64

Mile 162.  Rachel would probably enjoy this post more if it was titled "4 Squared - 4 Cubed", rather than the Boredom Committee approved "16-64".  Plus today is Friday the 4th!

Lunch time found Tortoise at Roadrunner getting his tires changed, after 58,000 miles on the old set. This took just long enough for Lou to walk through part of Confluence Park on a beautiful near Spring day, accompanied by a thought by Linda Reeves ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.43 miles and had a 4.4 tortoise rating earned by climbing 303 feet in the 1.72 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3134.  This walk burned 547 calories in 55:25 minutes, a pace of 16:09 minutes per mile. It was Lou's twenty-first 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

162.73 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 175.16 miles.

12,309 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 10,780. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 48:05 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:15 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 256 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 359 of the 368 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.55% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ...

" ... the Lord allows us to be tried and tested, sometimes to our maximum capacity.  We have seen the lives of loved ones -- and maybe our own -- figuratively burned to the ground and have wondered why a loving and caring Heavenly Father would allow such things to happen.  But He does not leave us in the ashes; He stands with open arms, eagerly inviting us to come to Him.  He is building our lives into magnificent temples where His Spirit can dwell eternally."

The tortoise is smiling!
