Mile 165. Greetings from mile 7 of the San Gabriel River Trail, where bicyclists and walkers share the path with a smile! Tortoise stuck to the section to the right of the solid white line, leaving the middle section for those pedaling by. Los Angeles County paints the miles on its paths every quarter mile, and Lou happily snapped pictures at each one he passed ... in both directions. That and the day's walking thought by Thomas Monson are on tap for you ...
Cheerio!
This one is dedicated to Tortoise's bird loving sweetie |
Joining the trail at Del Amo Blvd. near its intersection with Studebaker. |
Lou couldn't find mile 6.75 in either direction. Probably under the Carson Avenue bridge |
Today's turnaround point |
A very nice park that the trail passes through on much of today's walk. |
Today's walk was 3.18 miles and had a 6.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 38 feet in the 1.59 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 51. This walk burned 515 calories in 50:00 minutes, a pace of 15:43 minutes per mile. It was Lou's twenty-second 5k walk of 2016.
Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:
165.91 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 178.34 miles.
12,347 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 10,976. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015. So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 48:07 minutes each.
His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:14 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.
Lou has walked 257 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 360 of the 369 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.56% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.
And now for today's walking thought ...
"There will be times when you will walk a path strewn with thorns and marked by struggle. There may be times when you feel detached -- even isolated -- from the Giver of every good gift. You worry that you walk alone. Fear replaces faith. When you find yourself in such circumstances, I plead with you to remember prayer."
The tortoise is smiling!
