"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-79

Mile 202.  Tortoise treated himself to a few moments of serenity near West Cinder Knoll as part of his walk up the office hill this evening.  It was an overcast evening, but for a few brief moments just past 8 pm the clouds and the sun put on a vibrant display of colors!  Lou is particularly fond of the color lines in the clouds shown above.  Walking thought today was by Russell Nelson ...

Cheerio!

And then for one brief moment, the light switch in the heavens turned ON!

A shout out to mile 200, with thanks again to our friends
on the Pacific Crest Trail.
Today's walk was 3.37 miles and had a 4.6 tortoise rating earned by climbing 261 feet in the 1.69 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3311.  This walk burned 516 calories in 57:02 minutes, a pace of 16:55 minutes per mile.  It was Lou's thirtieth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

202.38 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 216.56 miles.

14,747 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 13,328. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 48:34 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:19 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 269 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 372 of the 381 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.64% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"... the Restoration added knowledge that Saints had anciently.  The Lord provided a new book of scripture.  To the Holy Bible, He added the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  It is a record of prophecies and the ministry of the resurrected Lord to the people of ancient America.  It explains God's great plan of happiness--the plan of salvation.  The Book of Mormon is in full harmony with the Bible.  Both sacred records affirm the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the importance of His atonement."

The tortoise is smiling!
