"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-83

Mile 211.  This day, Tortoise set out on a path quite similar to yesterday's, except he went a little farther and higher, and at the end walked home rather than stopping at the elementary school.  Today's walking thought is by Tad Callister ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.52 miles and had a 5.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 205 feet in the 1.76 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3260.  This walk burned 573 calories in 55;47 minutes, a pace of 15:51 minutes per mile. It was Lou's thirty-second 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

211.89 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 226.11 miles.

15,336 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 13,916. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 48:37 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:18 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 272 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 375 of the 384 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.66% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"And finally this wise leader might teach him how to recognize and act upon revelation when it comes.  We live in an action-packed, fast-paced world where bright lights and high-volume speakers are the norm.  But this young man needs to know that this is the world's way, not the Lord's way.  The Savior was born in the relative anonymity of a manger; He performed the most magnificent and incomparable act of all time in the quiet of a garden; and Joseph received his First Vision in the seclusion of a grove.  God's answers come by the still, small voice -- feelings of peace or comfort, impressions to do good, enlightenment -- sometimes in the form of tiny seeds of thoughts which if reverenced and nourished can grow into spiritual redwoods."

The tortoise is smiling!
