"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-84

Mile 216.  Lou parked his car at the house and walked through Confluence Park to get to Special Needs Mutual, only to find they weren't meeting this week.  So he then returned home, having already been rewarded by the peace and beauty of that park.  Today's walking thought is by David Beck ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 4.45 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 335 feet in the 2.23 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3133.  This walk burned 693 calories in 73:46 minutes, a pace of 16:35 minutes per mile. It was Lou's thirty-second 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

216.34 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 229.30 miles.

15,671 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 14,112. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 48:58 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:18 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 273 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 376 of the 385 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.66% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Do you know what it means to minister?  Think about this question while I tell you about a girl named Chy Johnson.

"When Chy started high school last year, she became the victim of cruel and thoughtless bullying.  She was mistreated, shoved, and taunted as she walked to class -- some students even threw garbage at her.  You have probably seen people mistreated like this in your school too.

"For too many people, the teenage years are a time of loneliness and fear.  It doesn't have to be this way.  Fortunately for Chy, there were young men at her school who understood what it means to minister.

"Chy's mother had asked teachers at the school to help stop the bullying, but it continued.  She then contacted Carson Jones, an Aaronic Priesthood holder and the starting quarterback of the football team.  She asked him to help her find out who was doing the bullying.

"Carson agreed to help, but in his heart he felt that he could do much more than just identify the bullies.  The Spirit whispered to him that he needed to help Chy feel loved.

"Carson asked some of his teammates to join him in ministering to Chy.  They invited her to sit with them during lunch.  They walked her to class to make sure she was safe.  Not surprisingly, with football players as her close friends, no one bullied Chy anymore.

"This was an exciting season for the football team.  But even with the thrill of an undefeated season, these young men did not forget about Chy.  They invited her to join the team on the field after games.  Chy felt loved and appreciated.  She felt safe.  She was happy.

"The football team went on to win the state title.  But something more important than a football championship happened at their school.  The example of these young men has motivated other students to be more accepting, more friendly.  They now treat each other with more kindness and respect.

"National news media found out what these young men had done and shared their story across the country.  What began as an effort to minister to one is inspiring thousands of others to do the same.

"Chy's mother calls these young men 'angels in disquise.'  Carson and his friends are quick to say that Chy has blessed their lives much more than they blessed hers.  That's what happens when you lose yourself in serving others -- you find yourself.  You change and grow in ways that would not be possible otherwise.  These young men have experienced the joy of ministering and continue to seek opportunities to bless others."

The tortoise is smiling!
