"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 275.  Another peaceful late night walk in La Verkin, accompanied by texts from Ledge and the walking thoughts of Steven Snow as Tortoise went up and down five different hills.  Feels good ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.53 miles, done in 55:45 minutes at an average pace of 15:48 minutes per mile.  This route had an average 4.6 tortoise rating earned by climbing 268 feet in the 1.77 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3242.  This walk burned 586 calories.  It was Tortoise's forty-eighth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

275.35 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 283.44 miles.

19,624 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 17,444. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 50:48 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:25 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 290 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 393 of the 402 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.76% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"... unnecessary pride can dissolve family relationships, break up marriages, and destroy friendships.  It is especially important to remember humility when you feel contention rising in your home.  Think of all the heartache you can avoid by humbling yourself to say, 'I'm sorry'; 'That was inconsiderate of me'; 'What would you like to do?'; 'I just wasn't thinking'; or 'I'm very proud of you.' If these little phrases were humbly used, there would be less contention and more peace in our homes."

The tortoise is smiling!
