"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-161

Mile 446, June 9.  Such a beautiful morning to walk to work!  And yes, taking a minute to smell the fragrant flowers along the way adds to the joy, as does listening to the day's thought by

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.64 miles, done in 1:13:43 hours at an average pace of 20:15 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 4.8, earned by climbing 238 feet in the 1.82 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3251.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

446.21 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 439.49.

31,159 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 27,048. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 56:12 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:23 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 339 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. Overall he has walked on 442 of the 451 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.004% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"I also leaned that the high standards of temple building employed by this Church are a type and even a symbol of how we should be living our own lives.  We can apply, individually, the teachings of the Apostle Paul given to the early Church when he said:

"'Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

"'If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are (1 Corinthians 3:16-17, see also verse 19).'

"We are made of the finest materials, and we are the miraculous result of divine craftsmanship.  However, as we move past the age of accountability and step onto the battlefield of sin and temptation, our own temple can become in need of renovation and repair work.  Perhaps there are walls within us that are gritty and need buffing or windows of our souls that need replacement in order that we can stand in holy places.  Gratefully, the temple standard that we are asked to meet is not that of perfection, although we are striving for it, but rather that we are keeping the commandments and doing our best to live as disciples of Jesus Christ."

The tortoise is smiling!
