"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-162

Mile 449.  Tortoise took the most direct route home from work this Friday night ... at least he got it done!  Thought of the day was by Neil Andersen ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.00 miles, done in 53:47 minutes at an average pace of 17:56 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 4.9, earned by climbing 179 feet in the 1.50 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3251.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

449.21 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 442.68.

31,338 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 27,244. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 56:11 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:23 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 340 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. Overall he has walked on 443 of the 452 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.009% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Like the intense fire that transforms iron into steel, as we remain faithful during the fiery trial of our faith, we are spiritually refined and strengthened.

"Elder D. Todd Christofferson explained what he learned from a personal trial:  'Though I suffered then, as I look back now, I am grateful that there was not a quick solution to my problem.  The fact that I was forced to turn to God for help almost daily over an extended period of years taught me truly how to pray and get answers to prayer and taught me in a very practical way to have faith in God.  I came to know my Savior and my Heavenly Father in a way and to a degree that might not have happened otherwise or that might have taken me much longer to achieve.  ... I learned to trust in the Lord with all my heart.  I learned to walk with Him day by day. (D. Todd Christofferson, "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" (Church Education System fireside, Jan. 9, 2011), lds.org/broadcasts.)

"Peter described these experiences as 'much more precious than ... gold. (1 Peter 1:7; see also 1 Peter 4:13)'  Moroni added that a witness follows 'the trial of your faith.' (Ether 12:6)"

The tortoise is smiling!
