"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-165

Mile 456, June 13.  Lou took the direct path on his walk home from work to get to family home evening quicker.   He always loves to take an extra moment to look at the pretty desert flowers along the way.  The thought of the day was by Todd Christofferson ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.99 miles, done in 53:37 minutes at an average pace of 17:56 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 5.0, earned by climbing 178 feet in the 1.50 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3251.

Weigh-in: 224.6, a 0.5 pound increase compared with Lou's last weigh-in a week ago on June 6.  Tortoise will attempt to give more frequent updates in response to reader requests.  This should please the Boredom Committee, since the most common Tortoise weigh-in trends are common to many:  up a little, down a little, rinse and repeat throughout life.  As long as the overall trend is flat to slightly down, Lou is pleased.  Ultimately, he would like to get another 30 pounds off as a bonus to the 45 he has gradually taken off since resuming his walking odyssey five years ago at the beginning of 2011.  If that takes another few years, it is all good to Tortoise.   Steady and slow, the usual order of those words reversed on purpose.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

456.23 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 449.04.

31,852 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 27,636.  Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 56:22 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:25 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 342 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015.  Overall he has walked on 445 of the 454 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.018% consistence rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Brethren, it cannot be this way with us.  As men of the priesthood, we have an essential role to play in society, at home, and in the Church.  But we must be men that women can trust, that children can trust, and that God can trust.  In the Church and the kingdom of God in these latter days, we cannot afford to have boys and men who are drifting.  We cannot afford young men who lack self-discipline and live only to be entertained. We cannot afford young adult men who are going nowhere in life, who are not serious about forming families and making a real contribution in this world.  We cannot afford husbands and fathers who fail to provide spiritual leadership in the home."

The tortoise is smiling!
