"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-268

Mile 749.  Lou's project of the evening was to help publicize the upcoming Family Roots Expo to be held in the Dixie Center October 28-29 by putting up posters in various locations where he had permission to do so.  This activity left him in Springdale in early evening, always a fun place to walk!  Thought was provided by Thomas Monson ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.09 miles, done in 39:09 minutes at an average pace of 18:44 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 4.9, earned by climbing 111 feet in the 1.05 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3870.

This met Tortoise's 2 mile minimum to be count this as a day walked, but was less than 5k and so he is not counting it towards his 52 Hike Challenge is what is left of the year.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

749.73 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 732.48.

Tortoise has climbed a total of 52,473 feet so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 45,080.   Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- as a way to get the 125 heart rate his doctor suggests for these walks.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 58:59 minutes each, compared with his daily average of 1:07:04 hours the previous year.  He enjoys seeing what he can do in an hour and change each day!

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 18:05.7 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 431 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. overall he has walked on 534 of the 543 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.343% consistency rating.

Today's walking thought was "Stand in Holy Places", by Thomas S. Monson from the October 2011 LDS General Conference.

"It may appear to you at times that those out in the world are having much more fun than you are.  Some of you may feel restricted by the code of conduct which we in the Church adhere.  My brothers and sisters, I declare to you, however, that there is nothing which can bring more joy into our lives or more peace to our souls than the Spirit which can come to us as we follow the Savior and keep the commandments."

The tortoise personally has learned that these words speak the truth, and he is smiling!
