"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

3-12

I walked 2.31 miles and climbed 30 feet in 46 minutes this morning in a little piece of time I found after watching Ethan's soccer game and before my next errand... I listened to"Mountains to Climb" by Henry B. Eyring in the Saturday morning session of the April 2012 General Conference while walking.  I took special note when he said "If a woman that good needed that much polishing, what is ahead for me?"  Total walking, for chapter 3 since resuming May 1, is 13.14 miles in 5 hours 3 minutes, with 205 feet climbed.   Here is a map and other details:

Find more Walk in St George, UT

View of Pine Valley mountains and more along the trail
and a plaque from the 2002 Winter Olympics
reminding all of us to walk daily :-)

The Virgin River near the trail

A reminder to take care of our river

Time to retrace my steps at mile 1 of
the Mayor's Loop

I also read Mosiah 16 and Daniel 10 today. My favorite passage was Mosiah 16:13, which encourages, "repent of your sins, and remember that only in and through Christ ye can be saved".

Eating today included taking my mother to lunch, with Willyne, in anticipation of Mother's Day tomorrow.  With five living brothers and a sister, it's important to make sure I get my own moment with her to thank her for being my mother!

  1. So awes to see another week full of commitment and activity in the books...congrats Awes!! Sorry we couldn't make the hike work today as that would have been total to join you in your mid morning journey. The kids would love take you on their trail someday, so we'll just keep trying. As you continue to prove, slow and steady wins the race!! :)

  2. Btw, Elder Eyring's talk was one that I missed during actual Conference weekend, but has quickly become a favorite of mine in studying all the talks since. Love his thoughts...

"It is never too late to strengthen the foundation of faith. There is always time. With faith in the Savior, you can repent and plead for forgiveness. There is someone you can forgive. There is someone you can thank. There is someone you can serve and lift. You can do it wherever you are and however alone and deserted you may feel."

There is always HOPE no matter what!!

  3. As always, Josh, thanks for your love and support.

I am sure I will listen to President Eyring's talk several more times to get as much as I can from it. He is so humble and yet so enthusiastic and hopeful while giving meaning on multiple levels. It is a true joy to try to learn from him!

    Glad you enjoyed it too!
