"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-49

This might be one of the more obscure places the tortoise has chosen for a daily walk.  It goes like this.  I was in appointments in the Long Beach, CA area until around 5 pm.  I still had a 420 mile drive waiting for me back home, and my walk to somehow get in.  First job was to figure out how to best escape the traffic.  Remembering that Interstate 15 headed up towards Cajon Pass is a heavy commute anytime, and is extra heavy currently because of construction on the interchange with Interstate 215 at Devore/Glen Helen/San Manuel (formerly Blockbuster) Pavilion (you know who has the economic power when a Native American casino buys out the naming rights to an outdoor performing arts venue from someone who used to be as big as Blockbuster was.)

I decided the least delays would be found by heading up to 710 to the 10 to the 5 to ... the 2! to the 210 to the 14 to the Pearblossom Highway (sometimes known as the 138).  Took me only about an hour to get here, not bad at all.  So ... where is it better to take a walk than outside a Mormon chapel?  Thank you Littlerock chapel of the Palmdale Stake.  I walked outside the gate the first few minutes until someone came to open it for Mutual, at which point I started doing laps around the building.  Like 30 of them.

Totals today:  3.73 miles with 45 feet climbed in 1:01:44 hours.  Tortoise rating:  6.1  Calories burned:  601.

Oh, you want to know how I got home from here?  Keep going east on the Pearblossom Highway until you reach Highway 18, take that to Victorville, get on Interstate 15 and book it home!  Sorry, no naps in Zzyzx today.

2014 Stats:

148.96 miles walked, which is 14.90% of my 2014 goal.
48:14:35 hours walked, which is 15.41% of my 2014 goal
  7,755 total feet climbed
23,539 calories burned
13.42% of the year has passed.
I've walked on 40 of the 42 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 95.24% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

The tortoise is smiling!
