"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-116

Got up early today to walk before my 9 am appointment.  A cool, breezy, delightful morning for a walk!  I've got lots of pictures this time that I hope you enjoy.  The stats:  5.44 miles walked with 59 feet climbed in 1:29:55 hours.  That includes 3 or 4 minutes of enjoying the beach before turning around and heading back, and all the picture stops.  Tortoise rating:  6.8, but this was a long enough walk that we get another Benjamin category overide to an even 5!  Calories burned:  881.

So what are you waiting for?  Click that button below to check out the map and pictures ...

Cheerio!

Le Bard Park, starting point for today

Walking up the connector trail from LeBard Park to the main trail.  You can see
where it is with the bridge Becca enjoyed on my March 29 walk
(visit it here:  http://terreeeblay.blogspot.com/2014/03/14-88.html)

After 0.4 miles I make it to my turnaround point from March 29.
On to the beach!

At one mile to go, the river actually looks like a river ... filled with ocean water
that washed inland.  If you look in the distance you can get the first view of the waves.

Lots of trails and roads start with "Mile 0".  I like how this one
says "Start" instead. :-)

A bird takes a shady rest from the wind under the Pacific Coast Highway bridge

The Huntington Beach trail meets the Santa Ana River trail at Pacific Coast
Highway.  I went a short distance on that and got some nice beach views.

And a state bird preserve.  I was thinking how that would make my Willyne smile!

Turnaround point for today, the restrooms along the trail at the first parking
lot on the Huntington Beach side of the PCH bridge from Newport.

Headed back now

I'm trying to get a picture of an especially nice looking bird resting on these rocks.

But I think I'm doing a better job at getting pictures of the water treatment plant.

There's the bird!

We got rain and wind last night.  Really cleaned things up.
Remember when we couldn't see the mountains 2 miles from our
home in Alta Loma because of the smog?  Here they are, 45 miles
away.  Mt. Baldy on the left, then Ontario Peak, followed by
Cucamonga Peak on the right.

Parts of the way there is a dirt path just to the side of the paved one,
some people prefer that one, especially the ones walking their dogs.

All done walking.  Went to a 9 am client appointment, then stopped
for a quick breakfast of banana oats and a kale mango (green,
Sarah and Benjamin!) smoothie with Greek yogurt

2014 Stats:

332.64 miles walked, which is 33.26% of my 2014 goal.
103:52:51 hours walked, which is 33.19% of my 2014 goal
15,449 total feet climbed
53,551 calories burned
31.95% of the year has passed
I've walked on 94 of the 100 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.00% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

The tortoise is smiling!

  4. It actually could happen next time we do the Disneyland one day, beach the next, trip. The trail starts right at the city line between Newport and Huntington, and isn't far from the Balboa fun zone. One fine year ...
